get the clods out of your heart

WEEK TWO—Dec 10
Hearing the Voice of God
We want to allow the Holy Spirit to dig in the soil of our hearts and reveal the clods that are keeping truth from taking root. This will make all the difference.
Seven clues that indicate possible clods:
Pressures within you that are being held at abeyance, and are not truly gone.
Issues which come back regularly.
Any habitual or stubborn sin pattern
Habitual weakness-mental, emotional, physical or spiritual
Anything within that is contrary to peace, hope, faith and love.
Anything within that lines up with the activity of Satan.
Addictions or out-of control areas.
Read the book of Ephesians to help prepare for next week.

Close with this song “The Divine Gift”

O God of light, Thy Word, a lamp unfailing,
Shines through the darkness of our earthly way.
O’er fear and doubt, o’er black despair prevailing,
Guiding our steps to Thine eternal day.

From days of old, through swiftly rolling ages,
Thou hast revealed Thy will to mortal men.
Speaking to saints, to prophets, kings and sages,
Who wrote the message with immortal pen.

Un-dimmed by time, the Word is still revealing
To sinful men Thy justice and Thy grace,
And questing hearts that long for peace and healing,
See Thy compassion in the Saviour’s face.

To all the world the message Thou art sending,
To every land, to every race and clan,
And myriad tongues, in one great anthem blending,
Acclaim with joy Thy wondrous gift to man.

Ephesians 6:14-18
Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You'll need them throughout your life. God's Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. (The Message bible )

What a high calling for daily living! How can you live like this?? How do you apply these truths every single day so that it can become a lifestyle? What does it mean to embrace the Holy Spirit?

It doesn’t just happen because you want it to---you have to DO something---well that’s the hard, easy part---willingly surrender yourself to God each day—not once, but several times a day until it becomes second nature to think like that. Say it even if you feel like your mind is telling you NO—I can’t do this, I don’t really want to do this---your mind will be thinking those kind of things even though the whole time the desire of your heart is to submit to Him. You wouldn’t be considering it--- if it wasn’t in your heart---GOD put that desire there, and He can bring it to fruition.

Today we are going to discuss and learn about the differences between the heart and mind. The way our brain was created to incorporate the depth of the heart.
We are also going to take the verses of scripture above and dissect them sentence by sentence, allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal truths to our hearts.
For 2 or 3 weeks following, we will be looking into some strongholds to watch out for that cause problems for the heart—and how to get rid of them once and for all, allowing a healthy, anointed spiritual flow of communication to and from the heart.
Amazing recent evidence indicates that the heart begins to beat in the unborn fetus even before the brain is formed so it appears that the heart truly holds primary status as the initiator of human life.
These worksheets are created to help the people who learn better by writing things down. We are all different, so don’t feel obligated to take notes.

Embracing The Holy Spirit through Prayer
WEEK ONE—Dec 3 THE HEART
Amazing recent evidence shows that the heart begins to beat in the unborn fetus even before the brain is formed so it appears that the heart truly does hold primary status as the initiator of human life.
FOCAL PASSAGE: PSALM 51 (David cries out to God)

BACKGROUND PASSAGES: 1 SAMUEL (13:13-14; 9: 18-19; 10:26)

WORDS OF JESUS: Book of Matthew (see list at bottom)
The Hebrew word for “heart” is lebab, which means: To be enclosed—as the interior or center, hence, the heart. In the Greek, the word is kardia. It means: The seat in the center of man’s inward life—the place of human depravity or the sphere of divine influence. Both meanings point to that which gives man “life”: The depraved nature of spiritual death—which by nature is our life. Or, spiritual life which enters a person and replaces spiritual death when they accept and confess Jesus as their payment for sin and believe that He was raised from to dead to give us His new life.
Nurturing this “spiritual life” within us is essential for a fulfilling and prosperous life. It can only blossom through study and obedience of written Word of God, and, by obedience-to and fellowship-with the Word of God Himself. Our growth in God happens no other way. This in turn is our part in serving God with this new life that He has placed within us: To “love the Lord our God with all….(Matt. 22:37)

In today’s thought and language, how is the word HEART used? Name some phrases.
Even in these phrases we are suggesting that the heart contains or describes our inner attitudes.

God has designed this part of us to DISCERN to DESIRE to DECIDE and to DEDICATE
Prov. 23:7 “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (decide)
Luke 5:22 “What reason ye in your hearts?” (discern)

He wants the actions of our hearts to be in accordance with His will (Ps 19:8-10; 14)---Be reminded of our heart problems (Mark 7: 21-23)
So how does God deal with our hearts?

GOD EXAMINES OUR HEARTS (1Sam 9:18-19; Mark 7 21-23) “I will tell you all that is in your heart.” (he reads our hearts)
ASK Him to read your heart
GOD TOUCHES OUR HEARTS (1 Sam. 10: 26)
Our prayer—“God, go ahead and do in my heart what needs to be done.
Take what is wrong there and rectify it—cleanse it.
Straighten me out-----Lord, TOUCH my heart.”
GOD CHANGES OUR HEARTS
(Remember, Saul started with a changed heart)
BE WARNED! Guard your heart lest it grow immune to the work of God. Let Him know you desperately want His touch---
look for changes God is trying to bring to your life as he dwells in your heart-----He transforms you from within.
GOD WILL ONLY DO WHAT WE ALLOW HIM TO DO
